I began my career in private architectural practices since leaving school in 1987 and I studied part-time for my ONC/HNC in Building Studies. Honing my hand drawing skills on a drawing board and then with the onset of CAD, teaching myself on Autocad to an extremely quick and proficient standard.
After focusing on residential design in 1992, I began working for Housing Developers providing hand drawnfeasibility sketches to support Land Departments, CAD planning drawings for submissions and full working drawings for both approval and construction. I have provided on-site technical support gaining significant job running experience, once in the construction phase. I also have knowledge of designing to Lifetime Homes Standards & Design Quality Requirements (Wales).
As my journey started on the drawing board during my apprenticeship, then specialising in producing hand drawn feasibility sketches with my own unique flair while keeping pace with high speed demands of the industry. Producing sketches from 50 units all the way up to a 1050 unit estates including a school, a local center, a commercial B1/2 trading estate and a retirement scheme. I also have extensive national knowledge of the many regional design guides as well as documents like 'Manuals For Streets'.
I have faced many professional set-backs in my career, going through numerous redundancies both successfully and unsuccessfully however after being made redundant again during the 1st Covid quarantine, I decided to take control of my own future and started MCR Design Ltd in September 2020. I invested heavily in my CAD workstation to become a completely paperless company which is really important to me, I utilise an iPad Pro and a Wacom 32" Cintiq Pro digital tablet. So I can still hand draw all my sketches but within the digital domain which also produces in my opinion, an unrivalled quality to my sketches.
During my time in the industry I've developed great working relationships with many like minded professionals, who can provide all the technical support required to assist in future projects, big or small.Â
